WaveVR school pilots show 86% of young people felt better after sessions

WaveVR Research Schools

We’re pleased to share encouraging results from the pilot programme running WaveVR in schools and NHS youth services across Northamptonshire.

Key findings

The pilot involved young people engaging with WaveVR’s immersive therapeutic experience, which is grounded in Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT) and designed to build emotional resilience.

Results showed that:

  • 86% of participants reported feeling better after a WaveVR session
  • 95% enjoyed the VR experience
  • Mood improved by 27% on average
  • Sense of control improved by 24%
  • Focus improved by 33%

A safe, engaging approach

WaveVR places young people in a calming virtual environment where friendly virtual companions guide them through exercises covering mindfulness, emotional regulation, and distress tolerance. Sessions typically last 20–25 minutes and don’t require specialist clinician supervision, making them practical for school settings.

What’s next

We’re continuing to expand the pilot programme and are looking forward to working with more schools and youth services. If you’re interested in bringing WaveVR to your setting, please get in touch.
